ABOUT ME
Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent a few years living in New York City studying acting.  It was Sanford Meisner’s training, which defined acting as “living truthfully in the moment,” that actually guided my decision to become a therapist.  This mindful approach to life led me to Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the core of which is mindfulness.  I was fortunate to be trained by Marsha Linehan as part of a clinical team that established a comprehensive DBT program in Omaha, Nebraska.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy was originally developed by Dr. Linehan to help clients with high risk behaviors (aka Borderline Personality Disorder).  However, the recognition that we all struggle, at times, with dysregulated emotions, impulsive decisions/behaviors, interpersonal conflict, and a lack of focus on our values, has made this training valuable to, frankly, everyone.  I have successfully adapted DBT in my work with adults and adolescents both in residential treatment and in outpatient therapy.

As a military wife, I came back to the East Coast in 2005 when my husband got orders to the DC area, where I continued to incorporate mindfulness and self-regulation in my therapy and clinical supervision with various populations.  In 2010, I was introduced to Neurofeedback (biofeedback for the brain), a non-invasive approach that provides client-specific information about the brain, taking much of the guess work out of helping clients self-regulate.  This cutting edge technology resonated with my therapeutic approach.  So, after much training and supervision, I earned my BCIA certification in Neurofeedback.

Although I have been in private practice for over ten years, I have recently established my own practice, Integrative Counseling Services, as I continue my journey to help my clients learn how to self-regulate on many levels and, ultimately,  build a life worth living.
